For this episode we catch up with an internationally recognised choreographer, dancer, B-girl, DJ and entrepreneur, who is a bonafide powerhouse and has grown to be a respected force in the industry.

This cultural and creative polymath is not one to have terms dictated to her and her relentless pursuit of excellence has seen her climb heights despite seemingly having the odds stacked against her.

From her exploits on the global stage as a B-girl, to her burgeoning career as a DJ and producer, Courtnae Paul has never accepted “mediocre” as being a part of her ambitious lexicon.

We are bringing something back from the vault while we prepare for season 5! We can’t wait to share what we have been working on with you, but for now, here is one of our favourites from Season 3.

Nasty C is a multi award-winning rapper who, despite growing up in Durban, the home of kwaito, house and gqom, carved a different path for himself in hip hop.

This path ultimately saw him become the youngest ever recipient of an award at the SA Hip Hop Awards in 2015, release a triple-platinum selling album in 2018, and ultimately go on to sign to a historic deal with Def Jam Records in early 2020.

Having toured 32 new markets last year alone, this trailblazer has a knack for filling up arenas and dominating the stage, and at only 23-year-old he is undisputedly the voice of a new generation with a third hit album (A Zulu Man With Some Power), mini-documentary (Origins) and a Netflix special (Zulu Man in Japan) under his belt in 2020 so far.

Special shout out to TOMS – The Only Music Store, without which, a lot of this noise is not possible.

Portugal, the Man is a Grammy-winning band that fuses elements of psychedelia and classic rock, with a dash of modern pop and a willingness to experiment, and founding member and bassist, Zachary Carothers, isn’t shy to admit it was all a bit of a fluke at first.

Not ones to shy away from speaking their mind, both on and off their records, their last album was responsible for a song that became omnipresent the world over (“Feel It Still”) and became such an earworm, you never got tired of hearing it.

From growing up in Alaska, to the effect of moving to Portland on the band’s trajectory, to falling in love with South Africa after their 2015 tour opened their eyes to the beauty of the country, Zach speaks candidly about all the places he’s been and the places he’s planning on going as he’s getting older.

From his early roots in rural Natal to discovering his love of dance music while at University, the mythos of Sun-El Musician has grown, going above and beyond.
