While we are cooking away at our new season we are bringing back this gem that really deserves to be heard again.

Black Motion is Thabo “Smol” Mabogwane and Robert “Murdah” Mohosana, the duo who have been flying the flag high for Tshwane, the undisputed house music capital of South Africa, for the last decade.

Their percussion-driven electronic dance music and wildly energetic performances, helped establish them as purveyors of South Africa’s burgeoning house scene, as they travelled the world and climbed the charts to praise and critical acclaim.

From their early roots in Shoshanguve, to their deeply spiritual musical journey, Smol chats the importance of their Pedi culture and how they built their sound on the foundation of the drum, executed in the familiar style of house music.

Throughout his career, rapper YoungstaCPT has fused local slang with socially-conscious content and his experiences growing up in the Mother City (Cape Town, South Africa). From switching between nods to local hip hop heroes and American West Coast icons, his music spans eras and geographies and it’s taken us eight seasons to get him here, but we never stopped trying.

YoungstaCPT is a continuation of a rich and diverse culture in Cape Town, the birthplace of South African Hip hop culture. Committed to a telling of a lived experience of struggle in the past, present and future, YoungstaCPT exists only to be a custodian of a proud tradition and add to the mythos of the legends that have come before him.

Sio is a singer, songwriter and spoken word artist who creates music that is so intricately layered and nuanced that she literally puts all of herself on the record.

With a career that has seen her collaborate with some of South Africa’s premier DJs and producers – and some of this podcast’s nearest and dearest – this powerhouse performer reflects on how she embraced her talent from a young age.

ByLwansta was first featured on Texx and the City back in 2016 with his debut EP “Your Absolutely Right”. Over the course of the last 6 years he’s become known for his biting lyricism and his charismatic flow and his attention to every single detail of the roll out of his last few releases is on a whole other level, worthy of massive praise.

Relating to creative output primarily through colour palates and inanimate objects, they serve to set the scene for a meticulous voyage of self discovery that has culminated in SPIGØNGET (Chapter 3), a study in the seemingly mundane, brought forward in a rich audio joint. t

This time around we have the frontman of an indie rock band that has a knack for churning out those singalong earworms.

With one of the most exciting and energetic shows across the board, they were a staple on every festival stage and Texx owns more of their merch than any other South African band, so their much-anticipated comeback is making her super excited to break out her t-shirts again.

From ill-advised band names to pop culture references that fuel the songs that the band has no choice to play on any set, Shortstraw is back and they don’t know what they are doing for their new album release.

Zoë Modiga is a lady who’s been on our interview bucket list since we first saw her face and heard her voice on TV. There’s something incredibly captivating and unique about the songs that she writes, and coupled with her bold, slick style she’s become a musical force to be reckoned with.

Hailing from an academic family and infused with the very essence of township community, Zoë has embarked on a journey that has seen her tour the world and collaborate with some of the finest musicians of our age, all peppered with a sense of self that inspires calm and reflection in all that encounter her music.

While we are cooking away at our new season we are bringing back this gem that really deserves to be heard again.

Sun-El Musician is a producer and DJ who, over the course of the last half-a-decade, has given us some of South Africa’s most beloved dance anthems, and has introduced us to a whole host of vocalists on his rich compositions, that have gone on to become national earworms.

With his latest, mammoth, 31-track album that fuses traditional and futuristic elements into complete electronic sounds, it serves as a continuation of his debut album and focuses on telling a story of healing, and hope, through dance music.

From his early roots in rural Natal to discovering his love of dance music while at University, the mythos of Sun-El Musician has grown, going above and beyond.
